DNS Hosting
There are many free DNS hosting sites that are
now available, mainly attached to domain registration
sites. However they often only give you the ability
to control your A records (a domain name that resolves
to the IP address where you are hosted) and the
MX record (pointing to your mailserver). If you
want to make more complicated changes to your
DNS records it is lot more difficult.
We can host your domain on our DNS system and
provide you with a control panel that will allow
you to change whatever aspect of your DNS records
you wish, including:
- A records
- MX records
- CNAME
- TXT
- AAAA records (IPv6 addresses)
The service charges are based on credits, with
1 credit being an advance payment of £20
per year, or £2 per month added to a hosting
package. The basic service is 1 credit or free if you
host with us.
We can also offer add on services as follows:
- Failover services - by default if you point
a website at two IP addresses we round robin
the web calls to load balance your website.
However for an extra 1 credit we can provide
a failover service so that if one IP target
should fail it is taken out of the round robin
servicing automatically, stopping an outage
on a server from showing page errors on your
site. When the server returns the IP is automatically
added to the serving list again.
- MX mail backup services - if you only have
1 mailserver and it goes down the resulting
mail bounces can look bad for your business.
For 1 credit per month we can backup your MX
record with a second MX record that points to
a holding server. This will hold your rejected
mail until your server comes back online again,
and it will then deliver the held messages to
your server. So you need never miss an important
mail again!
- Extra Name Server - you are allocated two
geographically separate name servers with your
basic account. Extra name servers can be added
at 1 credit per name server to increase reliability
and redundancy of your domain.
We also include free webforward, mail forward,
and web park facilities with your basic account,
and if you don't want to have control over your
domain and just want to park the domain for access
later we can set up the domain on our systems
with 1 initial configuration to your own requirements
for a £10 one off fee. Monthly charges would
be activated if you subsequently wanted full access
to the domain, but the £10 fee would be
deducted from your first year.
