CORAID Deployments - Amazing Price, Amazing Performance!

CORAID Logo Linux Magazine Award Infoworld Award Linux World Award

So you've seen technical reasons why AoE storage is a good product, but how do real world deployments perform? A couple of prime examples of price / performance comparisons follow:

Customer with existing HP Superdome solution consisting of 48 CPU cores and 50TB of Fibre Channel storage that cost $1.2M with $90K in annual maintenance per year. They ran Oracle with 5TB tables containing billions of rows of data. Average query time was 3-3.5 min for analyst reports that were run 50+ times per day. They deployed an AoE 10Gbit based solution on Linux that now achieves query times of 2.5-3min. The CORAID solution for 50TB cost $49K including the 8 CPU core 48GB RAM Linux server. The HP system used 300GB SAS drives, whilst CORAID used 1TB SATA drives.

A full solution for less than the maintenance on the existing solution, and better performance!

Coraid has also now secured a 2.2 PetaByte deployment, providing storage resources for a very large VMware private cloud (> 40,000 nodes) with a total cost of less than $1M - previously the customer paid around $5M per PetaByte for their storage solution. This is a cost saving of nearly 90% and storage performance has been increased. Contact us for more specific details.

There are many examples like this where Coraid storage has been deployed at a substantially lower cost in terms of both purchase and operation, and yet has delivered greater performance than its competitors. In fact we know of many scenarios where Coraid storage was implemented as Tier-3 backup storage and outperformed the much more expensive Tier-1 main storage, and was subsequently used to replace the entire storage facility. Why pay 10 times the price for the same performance? Give us a call!

Case Studies

Here are some specific case studies of CORAID Etherdrive implementations and the customer findings:

Complex Carbohydrate Research Center - Funded by the US Department of Energy, the University of Georgia CCRC is the Center for Plant and Microbial Complex Carbohydrates and the only National Institutes of Health Resource Center for Biomedical Carbohydrates in the nation. As a federal research laboratory, the CCRC handles many terabytes of data in its research. Faced with the storage and management of such vast volumes of data, to meet growing storage needs, the CRCC uses Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure that utilises CORAID EtherDrive storage.

North Canton School District - North Canton, Ohio deployed EtherDrive SAN to provide storage across a complex environment running Linux, Windows, and VMware ESXi servers across seven schools and three administrative buildings.

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center - NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory uses EtherDrive storage to host their Mission Operation data.

Panther Express Content Delivery Network - Find out how Panther Express uses EtherDrive storage in their content delivery network, at content cache locations around the world.

Police Car Surveillance Video - The Olathe, Kansas Police Department is using ATA-over-Ethernet based storage to store video footage from the department's in-car video surveillance system.

University of Alaska, Fairbanks - The College of Rural and Community Development at the University of Alaska is creating an integrated social software service for collaborative classroom communities using WordPress Multi-User and a PMWiki Farm.

National Human Genome Research Institute - The National Human Genome Research Institute in Rockville, Maryland has evolved their storage to address the unique and growing challenges of handling complicated image and mathematical analysis workloads.
